To achieve this, energy modernization was carried out in the buildings of two schools located in the city of Żory:

Technical Secondary School No. 1 named after Nicolaus Copernicus in Żory,
Primary School No. 4 with Sports Departments and the Sports Championship. Otylia Jędrzejczak in Żory.
These were the so-called buildings old buildings, generating significant heat losses. For economic and environmental reasons, it was necessary to improve the efficiency of energy use. The exact scope of the investment depended on the characteristics of a specific facility and the needs resulting from previously conducted energy audits. In addition to thermal modernization, the project also includes the use of Renewable Energy Sources – installation of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings, as well as replacement of internal lighting in Primary School 4.

Construction works aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the building of Technical Secondary School No. 1. Nicolaus Copernicus in Żory included:

• insulating the roof with polystyrene, along with raising chimneys and fire walls and replacing sheet metal flashings, gutters and ventilation pipes,

During the conference, it was also emphasized that the project was not only about modernization, but also about educational and information activities. Their aim was to raise the ecological awareness of residents and to change their thinking and behavior towards energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
A series of workshops was organized entitled: “Man – Energy – Environment”, in which teachers improved their qualifications and then shared the acquired knowledge with students as part of interest groups. The result of the workshops is the creation of ecological interest groups, examining the impact of energy choices on the environment in school facilities in Żory.
A very interesting event was the “Energy Savings Day”, which took place on August 26, 2023 in Cegielnia Park. An original and emotional activity within the project was the District Tournament of Oxford Debates entitled: “Ecologically conscious”, organized on March 14, 2024 at the “Na Starówce” cinema in Żory.

After the conference guests were invited for a walk, during which they could see how Primary School No. 4 has changed.
