Students debated about renewable energy sources


Two rounds of district Oxford debates under the slogan “Ecologically conscious” were held at the “Na Starówce” cinema between students of Żory schools. The leading topic of the debates was renewable energy sources as a cheap source of electricity. The event was organized as part of the project entitled “Comprehensive actions to improve the energy efficiency of buildings of Primary School No. 4 and Technical School No. 1 in Żory”, co-financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 under the program: “Environment, Energy and Climate Change”, program area: Energy.

In the first debate, teams from Primary School No. 4 and School and Kindergarten Complex No. 7 faced each other and in the next, teams from Technical School No. 1 and School Complex No. 2. The debate was started by the Marshal who became teacher Agnieszka Kraińska, informing the parties about its principles and subject matter. Four students from each school were allowed to take part in the debate. The voice was given to each side alternately. The side defending the thesis started. At the end both sides summarized all their speeches. The last part of the debate was voting. It was done by casting a vote for each student from in the audience and scores given by the jury composed of: Katarzyna Bujar – Deputy Head of the Department of Strategy and City Development of the Żory City Hall, Joanna Szerzyńska-Grabowska – Specialist Eco-Advisor of the Żory City Hall and Katarzyna Czeranowska – representative of the Department of Education of the Żory City Hall.
The winners were Primary School No. 4 and Technical School No. 1, what for they received vouchers worth PLN 1,000.00 to be used in an electronics store. For second place, School and Kindergarten Complex No. 7 and School Complex No. 2 received PLN 600.00 each in the form of vouchers. Each debate participant also received a package of promotional gifts related to the project titled: “Comprehensive actions to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings of Primary School No. 4 and Technical School No. 1 in Żory”, which included: a folder, a pen, a notebook and a reusable bottle. Additionally, students also received gadgets from the City of Żory.

Project titled “Comprehensive actions to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings of Primary School No. 4 and Technical School No. 1 in Żory” is co-financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 under the program: “Environment, Energy and Climate Change”, program area: Energy.
Total value of the project: PLN 7,277,919.70.
The city obtained funding in the amount of: PLN 4,152,242.80, including:
– from the EEA Financial Mechanism: PLN 3,529,406.38
– from the state budget in the amount of PLN 622,836.42
